THE BASIC STUFF

(Chris & Beate)

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4th

9:00 – 15:00

ASHTANGA YOGA | The basic stuff

What we practice in the courses is only part of what Ashtanga Yoga is all about. That’s why I regularly teach The Basic-Stuff Workshop. On the one hand, it is about the origin, the meaning and the practical tools for deepening your practice (Pranayama, Tristana, Vinyasa, etc.), other basics worth knowing and my personal view of the Ashtanga Yoga system: a basic understanding of Ashtanga Yoga.

The prerequisite for participation is only an existing, consolidated and independent Ashtanga Yoga Mysore practice of at least the Fundamentals.

Money should not stand in the way of regular participation in yoga classes or at my events. For this reason, ASHTANGA YOGA RAUM FRANKFURT has always adhered to the principle of solidarity.

Participation: 108,00 €

Drinks and fruit included.

1. HALF – 1. SERIES

(Chris & Beate)

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY
11th
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
ASHTANGA YOGA | 1st half 1st series

The first series (Yoga Chikitsa = Yoga Therapy) is the first of six series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

In this workshop we dedicate ourselves to the first half of the first series: Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana to Janu Sirsasana C. We also talk about the handstands, as well as the jump-back and the jump-through.

We cover the correct alignment of the individual asanas and discuss possible variations if an exercise cannot (yet) be performed correctly. You learn to adapt the practice to yourself and not to emulate a perfect fit – the focus is on individual execution. We combine these intensively with the principle of movement (Vinyasa): The connection of asanas in a special way.

In addition, we dedicate ourselves to the system of Tristana: breathing (pranayama), energetic closures (bandhas) and points of view (drishtis), should accompany your practice more and more over time and eventually become a natural component, also as the basis of dynamic meditation: for me one of the most important goals of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

Money should not stand in the way of regular participation in Ashtanga classes or my events. For this reason, AYRF has always adhered to the principle of solidarity.

Participation: 150,00 €

Drinks and fruit included.

2. HALF – 1. SERIES

(Chris & Beate)

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18th
9:00 – 15:00

ASHTANGA YOGA | 2nd half 1st series

The first series (Yoga Chikitsa = Yoga Therapy) is the first of six series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

In this workshop we will focus on the second half of the first series: Marichyasana to Setubhandasana incl. Finishing Sequence.

We cover the correct alignment of the individual asanas and discuss possible variations if an exercise cannot (yet) be performed correctly. You learn to adapt the practice to yourself and not to emulate a perfect fit – the focus is on individual execution. We combine these again intensively with the principle of movement (Vinyasa): The connection of asanas in a special way.

Pranayama and Kriya

Imagine how great it would be to have a switch that, when operated, would enable you to consciously choose between your right and left brain hemispheres, intuitive and analytical intelligence, sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, fight/flight reflex and rest/relaxation, and between the male and female, solar and lunar, aspects of your psyche.

How great it would be if, when required, you could switch from being compassionate to doggedly determined. Or from charged with energy to completely relaxed within a few minutes. Or from extrovert (physically present, expressive and outgoing) to introvert (reflective and absorbing) within a short time. This switch does in fact exist and it is not at all hidden. It is the prominently protruding olfactory orifice right in the middle of your face: your nose.

Pranayama includes some of the most neglected but yet most powerful methods of yoga. Pranayama is the vital link that connects asana to meditation without which the combined benefit of both cannot be harvested. Learn how to use pranayama to harmonize the doshas (humors of the body) and thus attain a state of health and balance as well as how to still the mind, enabling spiritual insight.

The kriyas are predominantly methods of purification of the body. They support the work of postures and are especially important for people who live in large cities. They aid in removing contamination from chemical, environmental, electrical, biological and electromagnetic sources.

Yoga Sutra and Sanskrit chanting

“The Yoga Sutra entered my life 39 years ago and since then it’s been a constant companion. It took me a long time to completely understand it but once this had happened it ended all confusion I had about yoga.

Understanding the Sutra gave me complete confidence in how to apply my practices diligently and that I would succeed in due time. The Sutra changed yoga for me from a faith and hope-based system to a science with predictable and repeatable outcomes. It is exactly this confidence and certainty that I would like to pass on to my students. The workshop will be interactive, with ample time for participants to ask questions.”

The Yoga Sutra is the operating manual of yoga. It is only when we understand the why’s and how’s of yoga that we will practice with confidence and beyond doubt. In this class we will chant selected stanzas in Sanskrit and a detailed commentary based on Gregor’s four decades of practice and study will be given. The commentary will retain the depth of the ancient treatises but will be fun, relatable and applicable to modern urban life.

HEALING ADJUSTMENTS

The Art & Science of Adjusting Wisely

with Dr. Monica Gauci

Chiropractor, Yoga Therapist

As Yoga Teachers we still have the privilege to place our hands on students. Some say that ‘adjustments’ should be left to chiropractors. As a chiropractor I know and value the profound power of touch that we all have access to. I am passionate to teach yoga teachers how to adjust in a way that educates, transforms and heals.

There are many different ways to adjust a yoga posture. There are fewer ways to adjust that are safe, respectful, effective and anatomically sound.

  • Learn what makes an adjustment safe and sound and the ingredients that make up a quality adjustment.
  • Appreciate the differences that effect student’s abilities and limitations and learn how to respectfully accommodate these.
  • Understand the differences between visual, auditory and kinesthetic (touch) cues as a form of somatic communication.
  • Recognise the profound power of touch to educate, transform and heal.
  • Know when it is appropriate to use verbal instruction, the guidance of light touch, hands-on corrections or body-weight adjustments.
  • Learn adjustment principles that can be applied to a variety of postures, whether primary or advanced, from the same āsana groups, eg: back bends, forward bends, twists, etc.
  • Discover which postures are unsafe to adjust and understand why.
  • Learn variations of adjustments to accommodate different body proportions and student abilities.
  • Practice the art and science of adjusting on fellow yogis.
  • Feel confident to guide, assist and enhance your student’s practice with beneficial, quality, safe and effective corrections!

Touch is the only sense we cannot live without! Touch communicates, educates and heals. Learn to use this vital tool with confidence.

In these three days Monica will use a professional and experienced approach to touch and adjustments. She draws on adjusting principles from her professional education as a Chiropractor combined and over 40 years of personal yoga practice. Her insights as a therapist will make these three days powerfully relevant. Her teaching is guided by her passion to help others.

Event #2: Ashtanga Yoga and Health (1 day)

The workshop combines medical knowledge and ancient yogic techniques: Traditional Ashtanga Yoga meets even older techniques from Hatha Yoga. You will learn how to integrate simple and effective health practices into your life.

Daily routine

9:00-11:00 a.m.: Practice unit

Yoga practice for optimal health. Traditional Ashtanga Yoga meets innovative movement therapy

You will get to know elements from innovative movement therapy. You can practice these in addition (in a separate practice unit) to your traditional Ashtanga practice. In addition, they have a preparatory, preventive or therapeutic effect. We also clarify when the need for such exercises extending the traditional Ashtanga practice is particularly high and whether you could also benefit from them.

12:30-2:00 p.m.: Theory part

Health through lifestyle and nutrition – suggestions for implementation in everyday life

In the theoretical part, we focus on the question of how we can make our general lifestyle and our diet healthier – without having to dislocate ourselves. Instead of rough concepts, you will receive concrete tips that you can integrate directly into your everyday life.

3:00-4:30 p.m.: Practice unit

Pranayama and meditation. What has been proven to work well and how do I implement it?

In the third part it gets practical again: You will receive a safe instruction in various breathing and meditation techniques, which have been scientifically proven to have a positive effect on your mental and physical health.

Prerequisite for participation

A regular, consolidated Ashtanga Yoga practice, no matter what level.

Note: The AYI Method founded by Dr. Ronald Steiner combines traditional Ashtanga Yoga with innovative movement therapy and living philosophy. On this “Ashtanga Yoga and Health” day, the focus is on the connection between an already existing traditional Ashtanga Yoga practice and elements of innovative movement therapy.

Cost

159,00 € – Registration runs directly through Ronald Steiner. You will be redirected to his website. Maximum 35 participants.

Event #3: Ashtanga Yoga – Explore the tradition (4 days)

Traditional Ashtanga Yoga – Pure for Sure! Four days to develop your yoga practice in the traditional Mysore style. Dr. Ronald Steiner supports you until the fourth series! In the afternoon we develop alignment and techniques. We end the day with pranayama and meditation.

On these 4 days, traditional Ashtanga Yoga awaits you, as Dr. Ronald Steiner himself learned from K. Pattabhi Jois in the 90s in Mysore, India. Ashtanga Yoga is a physical approach to a meditative experience. Because the daily repetition of the same sequences of movements creates a flow of movement carried by the breath, which can lead you deep into meditation.

Prerequisite for participation

This workshop is suitable for enthusiastic practitioners and yoga teachers. Previous experience in traditional Ashtanga Yoga is urgently needed! You should be familiar with at least the first series (Primary Series) and practice it regularly. Students up to and including the fourth series are welcome.

Note: The AYI Method founded by Dr. Ronald Steiner combines traditional Ashtanga Yoga with innovative movement therapy and living philosophy. In this “Explore the Tradition” workshop, please focus on traditional Ashtanga Yoga.

4 Days Traditional Mysore Style

Every morning you practice in Mysore Style together with students from the first to the fourth series in one room. The unique balance of calm and challenge, between breath and movement and between attention and introspection creates a special atmosphere that will inspire you sustainably for your own practice.

4 days alignment and technique

Every afternoon we look at alignment and techniques together: What are the basic movement patterns that should be considered from the fundamentals to the fourth series? Where is there an increased potential for injury and how can it be effectively circumvented? You gain confidence in your asana practice, so that you can engage with it even more consciously and relaxed. In addition, you will learn how to adopt demanding postures in a physiologically healthy way.

4 Days Pranayama and Meditation

Each day is concluded with effective breathing techniques and a meditation round. Here you will learn how to complement your asana practice in order to include the other paths of eight-limbed Ashtanga Yoga in your daily routine.
